RADVISION launch range-topping XT5000
Radvision XT5000
Radvision raised the veil on it’s flagship video conferencing system at the ISE (Integrated Systems Europe) Expo in Amsterdam. They claim it’s the most powerful video conferencing system in its class and is the first and only system to incorporate dual 1080p/60fps live video and content, HD audio, H.264 High Profile and RADVISION Scalable Video Coding (SVC), along with iPad Multi-Touch control.
The XT5000 uniquely combines the latest in bandwidth and network management technologies – H.264 High Profile for bandwidth efficiency and SVC for a high quality image, even in unpredictable network environments claims RADVISION.
“With the introduction of the XT5000, RADVISION has reset the bar for high quality, fully-interoperable video conferencing,” said Andrew W. Davis, senior analyst and co-founder of Wainhouse Research. “The SCOPIA XT5000 is a video solution with leading-edge power and with support for multiple H.264 profiles, dual 1080p60 streams, and a modern user interface. It brings room system functionality to a whole new level.”
It’s a stylish device too and would look good in any meeting room.

Introducing the LifeSize Universal Video Collaboration (UVC) Platform
LifeSize UVC
With the introduction of the LifeSize Universal Video Collaboration (UVC) Platform LifeSize aims to remove another roadblock to fully integrating video conferencing into an organisation’s network infrastructure.
There’s not much new in the way of functionality, it’s more a change in how the services are delivered. Some of the ‘infrastructure’ components of enterprise video conferencing systems, such as a video gatekeeper, firewall transversal and video recording can be run as virtual appliances on existing servers instead of separate physical appliances on a network. No need to install and maintain a wide range of individual devices any more. You will also be able to purchase what you need now and scale up if and when usage grows.
The UVC Platform replaces a physical model that is "rigid and inflexible," said Michael Helmbrecht, vice president of marketing for LifeSize. Physical appliances, whether from LifeSize or competitors such as Cisco or Polycom, are typically one size, ship with the same fixed configuration, and have to be installed and managed by the customer. With LifeSize UVC Platform you only buy what you need.

RADVISION's Scopia Video Gateway
Radvision Scopia Gateway
Radvision’s SCOPIA Video Gateway for Microsoft Lync is now qualified by Microsoft for video interoperability with Microsoft Lync 2010 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 (OCS).
This is great news if you’ve implemented one of Microsoft’s UC (Unified Communications) platforms and have existing room-based video conferencing systems. You’ll be able to connect anyone from their desktop into a room-based conference call, maintain the highest video quality and all with a standard look and feel.
Tthe Radvision SCOPIA Video Gateway is the only way to bridge the islands of existing video conference devices with the Microsoft UC platform, according to Radvision, who claim this is the first and only Microsoft-qualified gateway solution for video conferencing. It really should help to maximize the return on any investment in Microsoft’s UC platforms.

Crisis for Crestron - the end of the road for control systems?
Gesture control TV
As more technology ships from the home to the workplace (so-called BYOD - bring your own device) it’s even more important to keep an eye on the latest gadgets and gizmos targeted at the home user. One product range in particular caught our attention from the LAs Vegas Consumer Electronics Show... gesture- and voice-controlled TVs.
You can control these TV sets simply by speaking or gesturing at them. At a stroke (or wave!) you eliminate the need for remote controls. Crestron and AMX watch out. Or at least we hope you are incorporating this technology into your next generation control systems. I just love the idea of the Chairman gesturing furiously at the video wall - it could change the board meeting for ever!

Enable flexible workers or lose them
Stacks Image 404
A recent report from Vodafone on how the workforce is changing points out some harsh realities that all businesses should be taking on board. One particularly stark conclusion is the necessity to equip employees with the tools to work effectively wherever they are. Those businesses that don't risk becoming uncompetitive and will struggle to attract any talent.
This sharp and snappy paper reveals some great statistics to illustrate how expectations of working time and place are changing. It's clear everyone feels the line between work and home life is becoming much more hazy. These shouldn't surprise anyone too much if they've had any experience of the so-called 'Generation Yers' going the workforce.
What we did find surprising to read is that if you want a boss who cares whether you're happy, you'd best join a large company. Runs against what all the SMEs we know tell their staff!
It's also very clear that firms are yet to make the required investment in technology to ease remote working, despite all the benefits. First mover advantage awaits the brave.

Video Wall costs come tumbling down
Stacks Image 410
…with the all new Canon LV-8235 UST.
We’re all watching more and more video footage. This is being reflected in office design as we hear more and more of you want to create feature walls with large screens. These so called "video walls" are fantastic platforms for marketing messages, information content and brand reinforcement.
But up until now these striking video walls were only for organisations with deep pockets. However, thanks to a new product launch from Canon we can think again! Canon’s new projector is capable of filling a 110" screen siting just inches from the front wall. It boasts extremely high image quality and is even 3D-ready. And all for around the cost of a single 46”video wall panel!
adneXus were delighted to be one of the first to install this fantastic unit. It’s proved to be the perfect solution for Orient Express where it creates a 2.4m wide image and will be used to great effect in the reception of their new offices to engage employees and impress visitors (see case study).

We need 'Alternatives to Travel
Stacks Image 350
That was the message from Norman Baker, MP and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, last week when he launched the government's Anywhere Working initiative. Opening the prestigious Worktech conference at London's British Library, Norman Baker challenged the audience to break the habits of the past and find alternatives to the traditional commute. It was a well targeted speech as many of those he was addressing will be responsible for our workplaces development over the next decade or more.

It was also timed to coincide with the publication of the Department of Transport's paper "Alternatives to Travel". This incorporates the Government’s Anywhere Working initiative that particularly recommends flexible working and the use of video conferencing. It's crammed full of benefits and case studies but falls short on giving concrete advice on how to overcome the challenges; unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, it doesn't come up with any fail safe way of overcoming innate conservatism and the inability of many manager's to trust their staff.

Here's a taster.
"Ours is an age that has given rise to communications technologies of dazzling sophistication... Yet, to date, our approach to alternatives to travel... has not kept pace with the benefits available."

Vidyo wins Frost & Sullivan's Video Conferencing Award
Stacks Image 351
Vidyo is the 2011 recipient of the Frost & Sullivan Global Product Differentiation Excellence Award in Videoconferencing Infrastructure Systems. The award spotlights the emergence of Vidyo as a key vendor in a market that is highly competitive and dominated by videoconferencing giants. Frost & Sullivan's analysis indicates that Vidyo's disruptive platform and APIs will expand the market.
Roopam Jain, Industry Director, Unified Communications and Collaboration, Frost & Sullivan said "In terms of innovation, technical excellence, scalability and adaptability to varied videoconferencing environments, the VidyoConferencing suite of solutions is impressive and market disruptive. Vidyo's technology allows new entrants a low barrier of entry to create new, differentiated and cost-effective applications at a desired price performance."
In its Best Practices Report on Vidyo, Frost & Sullivan cites that currently, several products in Vidyo's portfolio - the VidyoRouter, VidyoRouter Cloud Edition, VidyoPanorama and VidyoMobile enjoy a "first mover advantage" in terms of a high quality solution at a reasonable price point, "clearly jettisoning Vidyo to a prominent position in the fast growing videoconferencing market."
According to the Best Practices report, Vidyo's solution is well positioned to meet the current and future needs of enterprises. The desktop video market has huge potential for growth. Vidyo's Adaptive Video Layering(TM) architecture is a new and more scalable approach to video conferencing eliminating delay, freezing and audio video loss that plagues traditional video conferencing, without requiring expensive network upgrades and complex bandwidth management solutions, while providing an HD experience for mobile, desktop, room system and immersive telepresence users.
